Echo

Echo, inspired by the story of Echo and Narcissus, is soft and feminine and folds into itself in a sort of self-comforting way.

The shape was inspired by the inside of a calla lily, a shell, an ear, shapes that express qualities of voice, listening, and soft feminine caress.

This Michelangelo marble from the Cervaiole quarry has a translucent surface, and you can see the delicate grey veins beneath the surface.

It felt fragile and alive to me, like the faint blue veins of a woman's wrist, where we can feel her pulse.

I chose to make it without a plinth because I love the feeling of it placed directly on the earth.

I love the way the stone expresses as much as the shape; it feels inviting, comforting, and ephemeral, as if she is trying to draw you in.
